- Title Hebridean Capability Demo 2022
- Date 29th September 2022
- Description FOX2FRENZY 2 took place in the Hebrides Air Weapon Ranges (AWR) from 12 – 23 Sep and the event was the largest mass firing of ASRAAM on Typhoon and F-35B known as a Missile Practice Camp (MPC). The intent of the event was two-fold; it provided an efficient method for the disposal of the end-of-life weapons whilst simultaneously providing an opportunity for frontline pilots to practice employing the weapon. FOX2FRENZY 2 comfortably achieved its aim, with a total of 53 missiles fired across 34 sorties involving pilots drawn from eight frontline squadrons and two Combat Air aircraft types (Typhoon and F-35B – culminating with a mixed 4-ship of 2 IX(B) Typhoons and 2 F-35B). All whilst continuing to deliver essential operational and training commitments. The ability to end-to-end test these weapons develops confidence in the weapon, whilst simultaneously developing personnel from multiple domains. The experience gained by logistical and engineering personnel as well as those by participating aircrew have proven to be invaluable in developing both local and organisational processes which will have the net effect of improving our operational output.
